Worship Sheet for Sunday 2 January – Mainly carols
A very Happy New Year to you. And perhaps with deeper meaning that usual we will be wishing one another a healthy one too. Sadly, we are not out of the woods yet and we find ourselves with a variant of the virus and more restrictions. However, most of us have had vaccines and many will have had boosters and while there is once again growing concerns we have cause to hope for better. In any event, we go into the new year and all that lies ahead of us with a God who has promised to be with us always, come what may. Jesus really is Immanuel, God with us – always.
Today’s service is mainly carols. Hope you are able to sing along!

Call: Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let’s worship the Saviour who is still Immanuel, God with us today and every day.

Pray : Lord, once again many of us were glad to come to the end of another year filled with sadness, ongoing restrictions and uncertainty, sometimes even fear. Yes, there have been happier moments too and we’ve probably been more aware of the love and support of others. We’ve had to learn not to take anything for granted and some ways we’ve been reminded of our need to rely upon you rather than our own resources. Amidst all the uncertainties, restrictions and challenges, help us to hold firmly to you and to believe your promises are valid and relevant even for us in 2022. Assure us of your presence and sustaining power, take away our fear, forgive us our failings and strengthen us for your service. Open our eyes to see what is possible with you and even as we are having to keep our distance from one another, bind us together in your love, for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Thought- One of the things I’ve missed throughout the pandemic has been singing. Initially, it was that the church was forced to close, then when we were allowed to open again we had to sing from behind masks and limit the length of time we gathered. I’m recording this service early to make sure I can record in church just in case the rules are changed to prevent me! All through lockdown my throat has been prone to get raspy and I don’t think I am the only one who has found it harder to reach the higher notes! So while we won’t have a traditional carol service and won’t have a full church with choir we are going give you the opportunity to sing a short selection of carols – but the good news remains – God’s promises still hold good – Christ the Saviour is born! The Lord is come! Glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth. Amen.

Pray: Lord, perhaps we are still a world in darkness and not only because of Covid, though it looms large. We pray for a swift and successful deployment of the vaccines and boosters, for a reduction in the pressures on hospitals and in the meantime for all working to keep us safe to be kept safe themselves. Give us all patience and wisdom enough to be sensible in the way we conduct ourselves. Bless those who will be particularly hard hit by tighter rules. Help us to look out for one another. Be near to those whose worries and concerns have nothing to do with the virus but who may feel they are being neglected. Help us to help one another into a future, though filled with unknowns, has hope – not least because our hope is in the Lord. In our prayer walk rather than praying for a street let us pray for peace in the world in 2022. SILENCE. Gracious and loving God, remind us that you are always there for us; be near to bless us and all for whom we have prayed whether out loud or in silence, for Jesus’ name Amen.
